North American Bear Center
The mission of the non-profit North American Bear Center is to advance the long-term survival of bears worldwide by replacing misconceptions with scientific facts about bears, their role in ecosystems, and their relations with humans.
There is a huge need for accurate information about bears worldwide.
Bears have been unfairly demonized for centuries. Exaggerated perceptions of danger historically led to eradication campaigns using bounties, poison, trapping, and shooting. All eight bear species around the world are now listed as vulnerable, threatened or endangered in all or portions of their ranges. Remote habitats that once insured isolation and protection are now being occupied by people, and the attitudes of these people will determine the future of those populations.
The Bear Center is dedicated to replacing misconceptions with facts worldwide. It is also working to conserve bear habitat, stop poaching for bear body parts, rehabilitate injured and orphaned bears back to the wild, and implement methods to reduce conflict between humans and bears.

Parents play a vital role in our lives. They are our main role models, and they help guide us through the early stages of life. This is not only true for humans, but it’s true for every species in the animal kingdom.
In the video below, a Mama panda notices that her baby is trying to escape nap time, so she takes charge and puts him right back to sleep. Mama knows best, and sleep is vital to the young panda’s development and growth.
Mama is enjoying a meal after a busy day of parenting. She thinks her baby is asleep, but the video shows the little panda baby wandering around the rooms at Taipei Zoo. Finally, the baby peeks in, and Mom notices that her baby is wide awake. She immediately drops her food and runs to grab her baby. Mom literally drags him back to bed!

This Massive Bear Spotted A Cat In Its Enclosure, And What It Did Defies The Laws Of Nature.
The laws of nature are often unkind when tiny animals come across larger, fiercer creatures. When an apex predator discovers a defenseless, weaker prey in the wild, the hierarchy of the food chain comes into play, and the results are far from pretty.
But someone forgot to tell this to Mäuschen, an 800 pound asiatic bear, and her adorable house cat friend, Muschi.
In 2000, employees at the Berlin Zoo noticed that a mysterious house cat started to appear around Mäuschen’s enclosure.

Instead of harming the little kitty, Mäuschen was thrilled to have a new pal.

The two quickly became inseparable.
In 2007, Muschi and Mäuschen were kept apart while the bear’s enclosure was expanded.

Muschi was so upset that she would sit outside of her friend’s temporary cage and cry.

After that, the two were never apart again.

When they were reunited, they greeted each other with hugs and lots of love.

It is still unknown where Muschi came from or why she was so drawn to Mäuschen, but their incredible friendship is undeniable.

What Is WRONG With Florida?
Florida made headlines last month when it decided to reinstate a bear hunt that had been irrelevant for over 21 years. For the first time since 1994, Florida voted to allow the weeklong bear hunt, despite outcry from their citizens and conservation experts. Officials claimed the bear hunt was to control the growing population of black bears in the area, and an effort to decrease the number of bear encounters in suburban areas. They set a quota of 320 bears for the weeklong hunt. However, reasoning behind that figure is alarming. They overlooked one crucial detail when setting the quota – No one really knows how many black bears are in Florida. In fact, the Wildlife Commission’s last statewide bear count was over 13 years ago. The black bear’s fate is being determined by a figure that hasn’t been recalculated in over a decade.
Florida sold 3,778 permits to hunt bears – more than the estimated 3,200 bears in the entire state.
For a species that as recently as three years ago was listed as threatened, this news does not bode well. Despite the outrage from the public and the foggy numbers to back it up, the hunt started as planned on October 24th, and nearly 3,800 people bought permits and got ready to bag themselves a black bear.
The hunt was called off after two days.
Sadly, the hunt wasn’t called off because they had a change of heart, or because there were no bears to be found, the hunt was called off because they had already reached their quota for the entire week.
After only two days, 295 bears had been killed.
Clearly, this is not the bloody solution we want for Florida’s bear dilemma. Conservationists and hunting opponents stress other options for controlling the population and reducing the conflict between bears and humans that are more effective than simply killing them off. It is also important to note that most of the bears that were killed during the hunt were likely not the bears who frequent suburban areas and cause the issues, but instead bears that were buried deep in the woods. The hunting of bears who are living peacefully in the woods will do nothing to stop bear encounters in populated areas. Bears that are in suburban areas are typically looking to forage through trash cans to look for food because their usual sources have been depleted. Replacing garbage cans with bear-resistant trash cans can help deter them from the area. In fact, Volusia County started using bear-resistant trash bins and encounters with bears dropped 95%. It seems that hunting is not always the best answer.

With over an acre of land lost to development in the United States every minute, bears are driven from their natural habitat and onto other lands, which can lead to problems, dangerous encounters, and death. Farms and ranches play an important role in providing bears the habitat they need. Coexistence is possible, but we must adapt to succeed. Help us improve bears ability to adapt and reward farms that protect bears.

Black Bear Walks The Halls of Bozeman High School
Staff and students at Bozeman High School got a surprise visitor roaming the halls of the school on Wednesday morning – a bear.
Bozeman Schools Superintendent Rob Watson said members of the booster club were meeting at the high school around 7:30 a.m. in the south cafeteria when a bear was spotted in the football field.
The bear then made its way to the interior of a courtyard.
“He was just kind of sniffing around the edge of the building,” Watson said.
The bear then walked into the school through a garage door on the back of the building and started walking down “long hall” inside the high school.
A Gallatin County sheriff’s deputy who is in the booster club along with others kept an eye on the bear, who stayed in the school a few minutes before walking out of a door, running across Mandeville Creek, then across 11th Avenue toward Durston Road.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokeswoman Andrea Jones said the bear moved away from the area and will be monitored if it returns.
When asked if this has ever happened in the school, Watson laughed and responded, “Not that I’m aware of.”
“I’m sure we’ve had animals in the school before, but I’m not aware of a bear,” Watson said.
